IGL safety management
to request and approve work permits
Transforming IGL safety management system with a web and mobile app to request and approve work permits
Brief Summary
Triazine collaborated with IGL to develop and launch a user-centric fire and safety application for iOS and Android users and web portal to effectively digitize high-risk activities, reduce errors and risks associated, improve workplace culture, and facilitate better compliance and ROI standards by automating work permit issuance process.
About Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL)
Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) is a prominent natural gas distribution company in India. Founded in 1998, IGL has played a pivotal role in transforming the energy landscape of the National Capital Region (NCR) and adjacent areas. With a commitment to innovation and environmental stewardship, IGL continues to be a key player in India's efforts to transition towards cleaner and more efficient energy sources.
Developing a digital work permit system for both mobile and web
Our team focussed towards building a seamless and convenient mobile app interface for IGL employees and certified contractors namely permit requestor, permit issuer, and site reviewer to allow for easy request and approval of work permits. Initially, this process was managed manually, however, considering the need for a digital system that allows all IGL employees to work collaboratively and gain a holistic view of work permit statuses, the digital work permit system was developed by Triazine.
Improving safety management operations for IGL
The work permit system for IGL's fire and safety department is a systematic procedure for requesting, approving, and managing work permits, particularly for tasks or operations that have safety implications or require strict adherence to safety protocols. These permits serve as official authorizations, outlining the necessary safety precautions and conditions that must be met before work can commence. The objective of this system is to ensure the safety of employees, contractors, and the workplace environment while maintaining compliance with industry regulations and standards.
Initially, this process was managed manually, involving paperwork, coordination among stakeholders, and lengthy approval processes. This approach gave rise to several challenges that necessitated a need for a digital mobile app and web portal system.
All these challenges necessitated the need for a digital work permit system that can empower IGL employees to work collaboratively, ensure consistent and seamless communication for work permits, provide a unified view of work permit statuses and updates, and ensure stringent safety protocols.
Our goal with the IGL fire & safety app & web portal
The implementation and development of the digital Work Permit System (PTW) mobile app and web portal for IGL aimed to achieve several critical goals, enhancing the overall safety management process within the organization.
All workflows were custom developed for IGL taking into consideration their needs around the system. These included the needs of Request Initiator, the Permit Issuer, and the Site Reviewers, each playing pivotal roles in ensuring the highest standards of safety within the organization.
- The Request Initiator is responsible for starting permit requests. This role could be carried out by a trained and authorized IGL employee or a qualified Third Party with valid STC certificates. The Request Initiator has the authority to enter details, request approvals, track pending and completed permits, and decide whether to approve or reject requests.
- The Permit Issuer, an authorized IGL employee overseeing specific control areas, has a vital role in issuing safety work permits. This involves reviewing permit requests and deciding whether to approve or reject them, including extensions for previous permits. The Issuer meticulously reviews all information provided by the Request Initiator, determining its acceptability or not. The Issuer could reject or approve permit requests and assign them for site inspection as needed.
- Site Reviewers, who could be IGL employees or certified contractors, are responsible for conducting site inspections to assess working conditions. These inspections are essential for ensuring the highest safety standards. The Permit Issuer selected personnel from the Fire and Safety Department and User Department for these verifications, especially for high-risk or critical tasks. These designated individuals play a crucial role in upholding IGL's safety protocols.

The Result
As a result of this comprehensive implementation, IGL experienced a significant enhancement in its fire and safety management processes. The introduction of the user-centric mobile application and web portal streamlined permit initiation, approval, and site inspection procedures. This efficiency not only reduced the time required for permit processing but also improved the accuracy and compliance of safety work permits.
The ability for Request Initiators to seamlessly submit permit requests and track their status from their mobile phones or web portals, coupled with the robust validation processes implemented by Permit Issuers, led to a more transparent and accountable system. Site Reviewers, equipped with real-time data through the web portal, were able to conduct thorough inspections, ensuring that work conditions adhered to the highest safety standards.
